Welcome to 4634You
JOIN US FOR OUR NEXT MEETING
Saturday, December 6
10:30am | Hobart Public Library
10:30am | Open Forum
Join us for us for an open forum about what matters most to you in Hobart. Your input will help shape the agenda and direction of 4634You. We want this to reflect the Hobart you want to see. After the discussion, we’ll break into small groups to figure out how to make it all happen.
11:15am | Breakout Groups
From our first meeting, a few key focus areas stood out:
- Accessibility to Information
- Environment
- Voter Engagement
- Youth Engagement
- LGBTQIA+
We can also address anything new that comes up during the Open Forum.
We hope you to see you there!
Not able to make the event but want to know more?
5 things you
should know
about 4634You
NUMBER ONE
We want clear, honest, and accessible information
Staying connected to what’s happening in our city shouldn’t be hard. From council meetings to community events, so much goes on that affects our lives, but if we don’t know about it, we can’t participate or make a difference. Everyone should have a clear, easy way to stay informed and get involved.
NUMBER TWO
We want to know who to ask for answers
Getting answers should be easy. There should be one person we can clearly identify as the go-to contact, someone who knows the issue and can provide accurate information.
NUMBER THREE
We want everyone to understand what city officials do
Do you know what the city engineer does? The clerk treasurer? The head of the planning department? Every position should have a clear, simple job description that explains what the role does, what skills are needed, and how decisions are made.
NUMBER FOUR
We want to understand how state and national decisions affect Hobart
Even though we live in a city, state and federal governments decide how much money our schools, roads, and public safety get. And if it’s not enough, the city has to make cuts. The state sets the rules for schools, decides how road repair money is spent, determines what’s legal, and limits how much cities can raise in taxes. Knowing this helps us understand city decisions.
NUMBER FIVE
We want more people to vote in local elections
In 2024, 4,500 out of 29,000 residents voted in Hobart. Local elections affect taxes, schools, roads and safety, and neighborhood funding. Neighborhoods with higher voter turnout often get more attention and resources, so every vote really does make a difference.
